What is accessible yoga?

Calm with Kristina | AUG 14, 2025

When people hear the word yoga, they sometimes picture complicated poses, extreme flexibility, or young, bendy bodies in colourful leggings.

But here’s the truth: yoga is for every body – all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities.

That’s where accessible yoga comes in.

Accessible yoga is about meeting you exactly where you are, today. It offers gentle, adaptable movements and a welcoming atmosphere so you can experience the benefits of yoga without feeling pressured to “keep up” or “do it perfectly.”

In my accessible yoga classes, you always have the choice to practise on a mat on the floor or in a chair – or even switch between the two.

WHY I LOVE ACCESSIBLE YOGA

I started teaching accessible yoga because I believe yoga should feel supportive, not intimidating.

Over the years, I’ve worked with people who:

  • Have never tried yoga before

  • Are returning after injury or illness

  • Want to improve flexibility but prefer a slower pace

  • Need a calm space to reduce stress and breathe more deeply

In every case, I’ve seen how mindful movement, gentle stretching, and guided relaxation can bring not only physical benefits, but also a greater sense of ease and wellbeing.

THE BENEFITS YOU MIGHT NOTICE

Accessible yoga can help you:

  • Improve flexibility and joint mobility

  • Gently build strength at your own pace

  • Support balance and coordination

  • Reduce stress, tension, and fatigue

  • Improve posture and breathing patterns

  • Boost overall wellbeing and mental clarity

And perhaps most importantly, it’s a chance to slow down, listen to your body, and connect with yourself in a safe, supportive environment.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN MY CLASS

When you join, you’ll be welcomed into a friendly group where we move, breathe, and relax together.

You’ll have options for each pose – either on the mat or in a chair – and I’ll guide you so you can find what feels best for your body.

We finish each session with a short relaxation, leaving you feeling refreshed, calmer, and more balanced.

COME AND JOIN US

I’m restarting my Gentle Accessible Yoga class on Tuesdays at 11:45am in Firth Park, Sheffield.

Whether you’re brand new to yoga, returning after a break, or simply looking for a gentler way to practise, you’ll be warmly welcomed. Mats and props are provided – just wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
